Duration of copyright

Copyright is a relatively long-term property right, with a duration, depending on the type of work, generally as follows:

bullet

Literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work: until 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author dies.

bullet

Sound recording: until 50 years from the end of the calendar year in which it is released;

bullet

Film: until 70 years from the end of the calendar year of the death of the last to survive of the principal director, author of the screenplay or dialogue, or composer.

bullet

Broadcast or cable programme: until 50 years from the end of the calendar year in which the broadcast was first made or the programme was first included in a cable programme service.

bullet

Typographical arrangement of published edition: until 25 years from the end of the calendar year in which the edition was first published.
